Organizing & Stress
Have your day ever turned into a complete nightmare because you couldn't find something important? Myself like many others deal with different levels of stress throughout their day to day routines, some more than others. All it takes is a little organizing to de-clutter your life.
You know what I hate coming home to? Counters and table tops that are covered with piles of mail, books, and other random objects that seem to accumulate out of nowhere, that's what. In some cases I feel overwhelmed, like nothing I can do will fix the mess, but all it takes is a little effort and you can renew your mental health and have a less stressful day.
Disorganization can have a detrimental effect on your mind, whether you realize it or not. For some, it could even affect their physical health. Piles of clutter can contribute to weight gain because of lack of space for you to move around in. That's when the feeling of giving up can set in, making you a prisoner to your mess.
Don't worry though, with a little effort you can improve many factors of your day. Here are some key benefits to keeping your space neat and tidy:
- Improve sleep
- Reduce stress
- Improve your relationships
- Focus on other aspects of your life and free up time and energy to improve your life in other areas
- Reduce depression and anxiety
- Make better food choices and stick to a workout regime, which will help you lose weight
- Make you more productive
Of course your average individual probably isn't too keen on cleaning, but if you establish a routine that works for you, then you'll be feeling better in no time. A big help is to gather any supplies you might need, such as trash bags or bins, before you start the actual cleaning. Another big help is to plan out what you are going to accomplish. Don't try and do everything all at once. Separate your time into smaller portions and take on one project at a time. What I like to do is divide what I am sorting through into different groups like:
- Trash
- Recycle
- Donate
- Re-purpose
If you take on your mess one step at a time, you will see results and feel like you have accomplished something. So get out there and de-clutter your mind so that you can be open to more pleasurable tasks.
