Character Brief #7

This week's Character Brief is going to be a little different than my usual literary highlight. I am going to talk about a set of wonderful characters that have brought my novel Queen of Swords to life. These are the creations of my imagination that tell a story of anger, revenge, trust, and redemption. Please enjoy learning more about the folks that bring my story to life. I am sticking to main characters and some minor characters that move the plot.

Characters:

Ivyssa

Hedarian wild child who has been chosen to be the next Queen of Swords and ruler of Azulyria. She is opinionated, loves archery, and is willing to accept the hand dealt to her with grace. Age 15.

Shar Cedara

One of the 5 Shards of Azulyria. She is in charge of the facet of the northern facet Arbouroth. The Shards are healers, master's of ceremonies, and act as the eyes and ears for the sitting Queen of Swords. They are in charge of performing rituals key to Azulyrian culture and can use the Revealing Sight to dole out punishments to those who have broken the law.

Teaken

He is a young boy who has just reached his 10th birthday, and is now allowed to have his stone and earth elemental powers awakened or as it is referred to in Azulyria, "illuminated." He must complete the Illumination Ceremony, which included carrying a torch to a special platform as well as drinking a special tea. He is to remain focused, and once the ceremony is complete, he will have to prove its success.

Alderion

He is an Arbourothian male slightly older than Ivyssa, and the facet's designated Maculirum. As a Masculirum, he is bonded to the ascending Queen of Swords to act as a confidant, protector, or whatever else the new ruler needs. Upon Ivyssa's arrival, he is cold and bitter towards her because of the manner in which she arrived to Arbouroth. After being bonded, he realized that his anger is misplaced, and warms up to Ivyssa's spitfire personality.

Azurina Silvera

She is the current Queen of Swords, and it is her duty to train Ivyssa for a period of 5 years before passing on the reigns to the new ruler. Silvera resides in the southern facet Cuprisima and is very dedicated to making sure that Ivyssa is prepared for the new role that she will take on.

Alexandra Nealy

Ex FBI profiler who now runs a yoga studio. She in independent, loves architecture, and is very protective of her family. Her opinionated and direct approach sometimes rubs others the wrong way, but she isn't one to back down, even when it could cost her dearly. Age 34.

Detective Lucas Blackmoor

Homicide detective.

Jared Kingston

Stone Walker who comes upon Alex and soon starts up a flirtatious relationship with her. At first he is distrusting of Alex because of a past he isn't too readily to share. he comes off as rude and violent at certain points, but is thoughtful and supportive as well. He has a bestial side that surfaces, but is able to control it, unless pushed to his breaking point. Age 37.

Erica Nealy

Younger sister to Alex. She is a real estate agent that loves abstract and unusual art. Mixed with her bright decor, Erica has quite contrasting interests. Erica loves to have a drink at the local bar where she flaunts her beauty and flirts with guys constantly. Age 27.

Katherine Eisenberg

Former boss of Alex. Alex discovers that she too is a Stone Walker shortly after beginning her career at the FBI. She is stern and follows the rules in a strict no nonsense fashion.

Harold  & Melina (Kalivas) Nealy

Alex and Erica's parents. Harold is renowned architect and Melina is a professor of Archeology.

Theresa Kalivas

Aunt to Alex and Erica, Melina's sister.

Serena Kingston

Sister to Jared and Erica's love interest

The Illustrating Writer

   The Art of Illustration      Illustrating images has been a way of communication for thousands of years with the earliest examples discovered in Lascaux, France, where cave paintings were determined to be circa 15,000 B.C. In ancient civilizations such as those of Greece and Italy, art became a major way of life and was used to honor their gods. And let's not forget ancient Egypt where hieroglyphics were used to communicate history, ruling pharaohs and their practices.       "In the Middle Ages, narrative pictorials appeared in illuminated manuscript." During this time, recording religious writings was the main reason for creating detailed images. Of course from there, with the invention of different printing techniques came new ways of displaying images and text for consumer viewing. Then came the profession of being an illustrator.
