This week's character brief highlights a crime fighting wizard who mainly deals in the affairs of supernatural creatures. Just check your local phone book and you find Mr Harry Dresden. He is the main protagonist in the book series The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.

Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden - aka Harry Dresden

Profession: Chicago's only professional wizard
Assets: black belt in martial arts, evocation (kaboom or battle) magic, manipulation of lightning and gravity, the occasional Hellfire, summoning spirits, using the third eye, and many other abilities related to wizardry.

Social Life

Love Interest: Elaine (first girlfriend), Susan Rodriguez (couldn't say I love you until she was made into a half vampire), Anastasia Luccio 9he comes to find out she is keeping tabs on him by dating him), Karrin Murphy (thought about becoming involved but maintains a plantonic friendship)

Family: Malcolm Dresden (father), and Gwendolyn LeFay (mother). Both are deceased.Children include Margaret Angelica Mendoza (daughter, by Susan)
Bonea 'Bonnie' Dresden (daughter, spirit of intellect, by Lash)

Friends: White Court vampire half-brother (Thomas Raith), Foo dog he adopted (Mouse), a spirit of knowledge (Bob), a member of the Knights of the Cross (Michael Carpenter), and Harry's apprentice (Molly Carpenter).


Characteristics/My Take

Beginning as a ward of the state at age 10, Harry is taken in by a dark wizard named
Justin DuMorne, who tries to enthrall and enslave him. With hard work, he goes from novice private detective to professional wizard for hire, and even though he lacks control at first, that doesn't stop him from mastering several abilities that have saved his life. Harry's skills draw the attention of several powerful players in the supernatural world whom have offered him more power. Harry is extremely intelligent, but prefers to remain humble and deny it. And if you ever fancy a dance, Harry is quite skilled in ballroom dancing. Overall Harry seems to be a wizard whose heart favors helping others, and not flaunting his intellect. He is skillful in many magical disciplines, yet turns down the opportunity for more power. If you need a supernatural detective on your side, Harry Dresden is my pick.

   The Art of Illustration      Illustrating images has been a way of communication for thousands of years with the earliest examples discovered in Lascaux, France, where cave paintings were determined to be circa 15,000 B.C. In ancient civilizations such as those of Greece and Italy, art became a major way of life and was used to honor their gods. And let's not forget ancient Egypt where hieroglyphics were used to communicate history, ruling pharaohs and their practices.       "In the Middle Ages, narrative pictorials appeared in illuminated manuscript." During this time, recording religious writings was the main reason for creating detailed images. Of course from there, with the invention of different printing techniques came new ways of displaying images and text for consumer viewing. Then came the profession of being an illustrator.
