Character Brief #3

This week's character brief highlights a woman who was on the verge of death, but was then turned into a vampire in hopes of saving her life. While a heroic action, our character resents her maker and is down right pissed that the choice was taken away from her. I am going to highlight Merit from the Chicagoland Vampire series by Chloe Neill.

Merit aka Caroline Evelyn Merit

Basic Facts

Age: 27 (at the time of being turned into a vampire)
Hair: Brunette
Eyes: Blue
Race: Previously human, now vampire
Profession: was a graduate student at the University of Chicago, Sentinel of Cadogan House
Assets: hand to hand combat, katana wielding, great physical and mental strength

Social Life

Love Interest: Ethan Sullivan (on again off again for several novels)
Family: Meridith Merit (mother), Chuck Merit (ombudsman to the supernatural), Joshua Merit (father), and siblings Robert and Charlotte.
Friends: Mallory Delancey Carmichael (soon to be witch)

Characteristics/My Take

Merit is the daughter of the wealthy real estate mogul Joshua and the always perfectly dressed Meridith Merit. She was a graduate student at the University of Chicago doing her dissertation on Romantic Medieval Literature. Merit had a strong mind and witty tongue; two skills that help her keep up the changes that come along with becoming a vampire, and dealing with her master Ethan Sullivan. Merit is resentful towards him for the longest, until sparks begin to fly, and she finds herself attracted to him. This former ballet dancer excels in the three areas that vampires are tested in to assess their worth to their house. Of course, coming from a rich well connected family doesn't hurt her stats. And you definitely won't willingly find her in some fancy couture gown, its casual jeans, tee shirts, and puma sneakers for Merit. Her upbringing hasn't made her a snob in any way. Merit will fight for those she considers family and friends.
