Character Brief #1

This is a project that I have been wanting to work on for awhile. I notice that there are several review blogs of novels as an entirety, but how about spotlighting characters that make those novels great and unique. So please enjoy my first Character Brief. For this new beginning, I have chosen a young lady from my favorite book series, Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.

Rosemarie Hathaway aka Rose Hathaway

Basic Facts

Age: 17 (beginning of the series)
Hair: Dark brown
Eyes: Brown
Race: Dhampir - half vampire half human hybrid that has increased strength and durability, no               sensitivities to sunlight
Mother: Janine Hathaway, respected guardian
Father: unknown until later, when it is discovered that it is Abe Mazur, shady Moroi mobster like               character.

Social Life:

School: St. Vladimir's Academy
Curriculum: Training to be a Moroi guardian
Best Friend: Lissa Dragomir, member of the ruling Moroi families
Love Interest: Dimitri Belikov, trainer/teacher and fellow Dhampir, age 24, russian

Characteristics/My Take:

Rose can be rough around the edges, but at the end of the day, she would sacrifice her life to save those closest to her, especially her best friend. If you earn her respect, she will be a loyal partner. Even at first, when she is not fully trained, she has a fierce tenacity that will not allow her to give up. This need to follow her gut and trust her instincts is seen through out the series. And even in the face of danger or a quarrel with a school mean girl, Rose handles herself with a confident attitude. On the other hand, her temper gets the better of her sometimes, and she punches someone. This doughnut loving warrior is the type of woman you want in your corner.

   The Art of Illustration      Illustrating images has been a way of communication for thousands of years with the earliest examples discovered in Lascaux, France, where cave paintings were determined to be circa 15,000 B.C. In ancient civilizations such as those of Greece and Italy, art became a major way of life and was used to honor their gods. And let's not forget ancient Egypt where hieroglyphics were used to communicate history, ruling pharaohs and their practices.       "In the Middle Ages, narrative pictorials appeared in illuminated manuscript." During this time, recording religious writings was the main reason for creating detailed images. Of course from there, with the invention of different printing techniques came new ways of displaying images and text for consumer viewing. Then came the profession of being an illustrator.
